About This Opportunity
The Ministry of Culture, Government of India, offers a financial assistance scheme for building grants, including studio theatres, aimed at supporting voluntary and government‑aided cultural organisations in creating appropriately equipped training, rehearsal and performance spaces for artistes. Eligible projects include conventional cultural spaces such as auditoria, open‑air theatres, concert halls, rehearsal halls, and training centres, as well as flexible spaces like studio theatres and experimental theatres. Projects may involve new construction, purchase, renovation, or refurbishment of existing spaces, and can include provision of facilities such as electricals, air conditioning, acoustics, lighting, sound systems, musical instruments, costumes, audio‑video equipment, furniture and stage materials.
Eligibility is limited to not‑for‑profit organisations that have a predominantly cultural profile, have been active for at least three years, and are registered under relevant acts. Government‑sponsored bodies, university departments, and colleges dedicated to the performing arts are also eligible. The scheme is open throughout the year with no fixed deadline; applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
The grant provides up to Rs. 50 lakhs for new construction or purchase of built‑up space in metro cities, and up to Rs. 25 lakhs for other projects or non‑metro cities. The central assistance is capped at 60 % of the approved project cost (90 % for North‑Eastern Region projects). Matching share is required from the applicant.
Applications are submitted to the West Zone Cultural Centre (WZCC), Udaipur, the nominated nodal agency. The scheme requires a detailed project proposal, supporting documents, and a recommendation from a national or state cultural body. The grant is disbursed in two equal installments of 50 % each.
The scheme offers financial support for building, renovation, and equipment, but does not provide housing or travel support.
