MacDowell Spring Summer 2026
The MacDowell Colony
About This Opportunity
MacDowell is a historic artist residency program in Peterborough, New Hampshire, United States. Each Fellowship grants artists exclusive use of a private studio, on‑site housing, and three meals per day for a stay of 2 to 8 weeks (average 30 days). The program is free of charge; artists only cover personal materials and travel costs, though need‑based financial assistance and travel grants are available. Applications open on August 17, 2026 and close on September 10, 2026. Eligible applicants must be at least 21 years old, not currently enrolled in a degree program, and submit a complete portfolio with a project description, work samples, and five artistic achievements. The residency welcomes creators across seven disciplines: architecture, visual arts, film/video, interdisciplinary arts, literature, music composition, and theatre. Selected Fellows sign a community agreement and are encouraged to engage with the resident community, with optional outreach events. The fellowship aims to provide an ideal, supportive environment for intensive artistic work.
