About This Opportunity

The Hambidge Center for Creative Arts and Sciences, located on 600 forested acres in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Georgia, runs a self‑directed residency program that supports professional artists, writers, musicians, chefs, scientists, and cultural administrators. Applicants work at a professional level and may be emerging, mid‑career, or established with national or international reputations. The program accepts approximately 170 artists each year, offering private studio cottages with kitchen and bathroom, communal vegetarian meals, Wi‑Fi in the communal house, and access to specialized facilities such as a pottery studio and a Steinway piano. Residencies can range from two to eight weeks, with session‑specific length limits (up to four weeks in Summer, up to eight weeks in Fall and Spring). The Center provides a modest weekly fee of $300 after a $1950 per‑week subsidy, and a $30 application fee (waivers available). Merit‑based Distinguished Fellowships may cover the fee and include a $700 stipend. Applications are accepted for three annual sessions: Summer (Dec 1 – Jan 15, 2027), Fall (Mar 1 – Apr 15, 2026), and Spring (Aug 1 – Sep 15, 2026). Notification occurs 7‑8 weeks after the deadline. The Center emphasizes inclusivity, welcoming artists of all backgrounds and abilities.
