About This Opportunity
Groundswell is seeking creative and experienced Teaching Artists and Muralists with a commitment to community‑based social justice work to lead a variety of programs including after‑school mural and multidisciplinary arts residencies, studio‑based visual arts programs for teens, and community commissions. Every Groundswell project follows a thoughtful process, guided by the vision of youth, community members, and artists. To ensure that every Groundswell project is a successful and authentic collaboration, we look for artists who are both technically skilled and rooted in principles of justice. Specific qualifications include mastery of mural arts, graphic design, video production, and mixed media; commitment to anti‑oppressive pedagogy and community building; understanding of youth development principles; prior facilitation experience in public school settings; alignment with the mission of social change and human justice; willingness to combat racism on all levels; and demonstrated care for and engagement with the community. The role involves leading programs, residencies, and community commissions, providing mentorship and creative direction to youth and community members.
