Indigenous Arts Initiative (IAI)
Kansas Arts Commission
About This Opportunity
The Indigenous Arts Initiative (IAI) is a program of the Kansas Arts Commission (KAC) in partnership with the University of Kansas (Spencer Museum of Art, Film and Media Studies, and the Lied Center). It supports a rotating series of Indigenous art labs that provide Indigenous artists with mentor‑based workshops and short‑term residencies. Selected teaching artists are invited to design and lead three‑ to four‑day workshops open to the public, receive travel and lodging support, and present their work at the university’s annual Powwow and Indigenous Cultures Festival. The initiative aims to build professional networks, expand creative skills, and foster community engagement among Native artists. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis for each new lab cycle.
