About This Opportunity

The City of Port Phillip, funded by the Victorian Government’s Multicultural Business Precinct Revitalisation Program, is delivering the Balaclava Multicultural Mural Festival. The festival will commission a series of large‑scale street‑art murals along Carlisle Street, extending from Chapel Street through the Balaclava shopping precinct and station area towards Carlisle Avenue. The works will form a public‑art trail that celebrates the cultural diversity, histories and contemporary identities of the Balaclava community, fostering social cohesion, belonging and intercultural understanding. Applications are open to Victorian‑based visual artists, muralists and street artists, with a strong encouragement for artists from culturally diverse backgrounds, First Peoples, artists with disability, LGBTQIA+ and other under‑represented groups. The festival runs 1–14 March 2027; selected artists will receive a commissioned fee (amount to be negotiated) and their murals will be publicly displayed along the trail. No application fee is required. The call closes on 25 October 2026.
