About This Opportunity

Chokechaka, a year‑round residency nestled in Peru’s Sacred Valley of the Incas in the Cusco Region’s Calca district, offers a unique creative retreat at 3,000 m elevation. The program welcomes emerging, mid‑career, and established artists, musicians, curators, scholars, activists, and cultural workers aged 21 years or older, across all disciplines. Applicants are encouraged to engage deeply with the valley’s culture, landscape, and history, fostering community exchange and personal exploration.

The residency hosts 1–8 participants for periods ranging from one week to over four weeks, providing a serene environment with private bedrooms, full bathrooms, work tables, and fresh linens. Communal spaces include a great room with a wood stove, fully equipped kitchen, dining area, living room, and shared workspace. Outdoor areas feature a ceremonial maloca/gazebo, fire pit, and versatile spaces for work, performances, and ceremonies. Optional lunch service is available for S/30 ($8) per day or $50 per week.

Participants receive complimentary breakfast, tea, and coffee, and can access a dedicated private studio for painters and other artists. The residency emphasizes cultural immersion, encouraging residents to explore local traditions, language, and the surrounding Andean environment. Application is free; the next call closes on 1 September 2026. Interested artists should submit their application through the Chokechaka website.
