About This Opportunity

The Nebraska Arts Council invites Nebraska‑resident artists to apply for the 2027 Individual Artist Fellowship. The program rotates annually among three umbrella categories—Literary Arts, Filmmaking & Performing Arts, and Visual Arts—allowing artists from poetry, fiction, nonfiction, playwriting, choreography, music, painting, photography, sculpture, and related disciplines to compete. Fellows receive up to $5,000 for a one‑year period to support the creation of new work, presentations, training, or research. Applications are submitted through the Foundant online grant system, with a deadline of November 16, 2026. Eligibility requires applicants to be 19 years or older, have lived in Nebraska for at least two years prior to submission, and remain residents throughout the fellowship year. Undergraduate enrollment in the chosen artistic field disqualifies applicants, though graduate or certificate programs are permitted. Recipients are selected by an out‑of‑state professional jury based on artistic merit, the strength of the portfolio, and a clear plan for using the funds. The fellowship does not include housing or travel support, but the stipend can be allocated toward any professional development activities related to the artist’s practice. The call is open to individuals only; groups are not eligible. Previous winners may reapply after a three‑year interval, provided they have fulfilled reporting requirements.
