About This Opportunity

MacDowell, founded in 1907, is the nation’s first artist residency program, located in the rural setting of Peterborough, New Hampshire. The Fellowship invites artists from around the world to work in a supportive, quiet environment for 2–8 weeks, with a recommended average stay of 30 days. Fellows receive exclusive use of a private studio, private housing, and three prepared meals per day. The campus also offers 24‑hour access to a state‑of‑the‑art library and technical facilities for disciplines such as painting, sculpture, photography, film/video, music, and more. MacDowell does not charge a residency fee; instead, it provides need‑based financial assistance to cover travel costs and a one‑time stipend to cover living expenses for those who qualify. The application cycle for Spring/Summer 2027 opens on August 17, 2026 and closes on September 10, 2026. Applicants must be at least 21 years old, not currently enrolled in a degree program, and able to submit a complete application with a project proposal, work samples, and five artistic achievements. The program is open to artists of all disciplines and backgrounds, and it encourages diversity and inclusion in its selection process.
