Artist residency | Espace pour la vie

Artist Residency at the Planétarium is a six‑month research and creation residency for professional visual artists and artist collectives based in Montreal. The residency is part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Voyager spacecraft and their Golden Record, and invites artists to create an original work inspired by the themes explored in the Planetarium’s upcoming exhibition. Applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents, have lived in Montreal for at least one year, and be recognized as professional visual artists. Collectives must have at least two members, with a majority of Canadian citizens or permanent residents, and at least 50 % of members residing in Montreal. The residency offers a grant of up to $15,000 CAD to cover creation and residency costs, 40 hours of studio access at the Conseil des Arts de Montréal, free access to Planetarium activities, up to 30 hours of meetings with specialists, access to telescopes and a 3D printer, and a temporary workspace. The residency runs from January to August 2027, with the resulting work presented at the Planétarium on 20 August 2027. Applications are due by 30 September 2026 and must be submitted via the provided online form after attending an information session.

Professional visual artists or collectives; Canadian citizenship or permanent resident; residing in Montreal for at least one year; must attend mandatory information sessions; must be physically present in Montreal for majority of residency; not previously resident in Espace pour la vie within last five years; collective must have at least two artists, majority Canadian, and at least 50% residing in Montreal.
