A Studio in the Woods – 2027 Thematic Residencies
A Studio in the Woods
About This Opportunity
A Studio in the Woods, located on a 7.66‑acre bottomland hardwood forest along the Mississippi River just outside New Orleans, invites visual artists, writers, composers and interdisciplinary practitioners to apply for its 2027 Thematic Residencies. The program runs as a series of themed cycles (e.g., Flint & Steel, Forest Lab, Ebb & Flow) that encourage participants to engage with the surrounding ecosystem, the Mississippi delta and climate‑vulnerable coastal environments. Selected artists receive a stipend, private cabin housing, and a dedicated studio space, allowing for focused creation in a unique natural setting. Applications are reviewed by a jury and the deadline for the 2027 round is September 15, 2026. The residency is multi‑week in length, offering protected time, space and support to develop new work that responds to environmental challenges. As part of the Tulane ByWater Institute, the residency emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration and environmental stewardship, fostering creative responses to pressing ecological issues.
