About This Opportunity

The Yaa Asantewaa Art Prize 2026, organized by Gallery 1957 in partnership with the Institut Français du Sénégal, supports and celebrates women visual artists from Ghana and Senegal (including the diaspora). Two winners – one Ghanaian and one Senegalese – will each receive a $5,000 cash award and a fully funded three‑month international residency exchange: the Ghanaian winner will spend one month in Saint‑Louis and two months in Dakar, while the Senegalese winner will spend three months in Accra. The prize covers flights, accommodation, transportation of artworks, and a materials budget, and offers significant international visibility. Applicants must be women aged 18 or older, hold Ghanaian or Senegalese nationality (or be of the diaspora), and reside in Ghana, Senegal, or abroad. Submissions require a short artist bio and statement (max 200 words) and a portfolio of up to six high‑resolution works with full captions, all submitted as a PDF via email. The deadline for submissions is 30 September 2026, with winners announced in November 2026.
