About This Opportunity
Warming Huts V.2027 – Arts + Architecture Competition on Ice – is an open, international call for entries aimed at architects, landscape architects, interior designers, artists, industrial designers and architecture students. Teams must submit a multidisciplinary proposal for a warming hut or artistic installation to be placed along the Nestaweya River Trail at The Forks in downtown Winnipeg, Manitoba. The competition offers a total budget of $16,500 CAD per project, allocated to designers’ honorarium (up to $3,500), materials and consultants (up to $7,500), labour (up to $4,000) and construction management (up to $1,500). Foreign teams may receive up to $1,000 for accommodation and $2,500 for airfare. Submissions are electronic PDFs (max 5 MB) in English, consisting of design sheets and team information, and must be registered through the Warming Huts portal. The deadline is 6 October 2026, 2:00 pm CST. Selected teams will be notified on 12 October 2026, undergo technical review, and develop construction documents by 30 November 2026. Construction occurs from 1 December 2026 to 26 January 2027, culminating in a launch event in Winnipeg where teams present their huts, engage with the public, and participate in speaking engagements and cultural activities.
