About This Opportunity

The Temple Hoyne Buell Center for the Study of American Architecture at Columbia University invites recent doctoral recipients to join its intellectual community as a Research and Teaching Fellow. The 21‑month fellowship (two academic years plus an intervening summer) begins on 1 September 2026 and provides fellows with the opportunity to advance their own research, gain teaching experience, and participate in the ongoing scholarly life of the Buell Center, the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (GSAPP), and Columbia University. Fellows will be co‑hosted by the Society of Fellows and the Heyman Center for the Humanities, and are expected to teach at least one semester in GSAPP’s architectural history survey course, with the option to propose an additional course based on their research. The position is open to scholars of the built environment who have earned a PhD in Architecture or a closely related discipline within three years of the start date. Applicants must submit a CV, cover letter, research and teaching statements, dissertation abstract, project description, images, writing sample, and three references. Review of applications begins on 15 October 2025 and will continue until the position is filled. No application fee is required. The fellowship offers a salaried appointment, research support, teaching opportunities, and affiliation with the Buell Center and its partner institutions, but does not provide dedicated housing or travel stipends.
