Summit Free Public Library Artist-in-Residence 2027

The Summit Free Public Library Artist‑in‑Residence Program, presented in partnership with the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey, offers a year‑long residency that supports artists while fostering meaningful engagement between artists and the Summit community. Three artists will each be selected to participate in a four‑month residency in 2027. Throughout the residency, artists will be provided a dedicated workspace within the Summit Free Public Library to develop their artistic practice while inviting the public into their creative process. Each artist will receive a $3,000 stipend, paid in four installments tied to milestones: contract signing, workshop completion, exhibition installation, and final open‑studio hours. Selected artists will work regularly from their designated studio space, offer a minimum of three two‑hour open‑studio sessions, facilitate one public workshop for library patrons, present a culminating exhibition, and participate as an active, welcoming presence within the library community. The program seeks artists whose work complements the library’s collections and community interests, with preference for book illustration, natural materials, and garden‑related themes. Applicants must be comfortable in a shared public‑facing environment and able to conduct open‑studio sessions and workshops.
