About This Opportunity

Splash 28 – The Best of Watercolor is the 28th edition of the long‑running Splash series, celebrating contemporary watercolor artists worldwide. Presented by Artists Network and Watercolor Artist magazine, the competition invites artists of all nationalities to submit two‑dimensional works where watercolor is the dominant medium (or similar water‑based media such as gouache, casein, or egg tempera on paper). Acrylics are not accepted as the dominant medium. Entries must be original, and artists must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority in their jurisdiction).\n\nThe competition offers a total of $3,500 in monetary awards, with the top three prize winners receiving a publication profile in The Best of Watercolor (Summer 2027) and a digital award‑winner badge. All award winners also receive a free one‑year Artists Network membership (valued at $99.99).\n\nEntry fees vary by membership status and deadline: non‑members pay $25 for the Super Early Bird (until 11 August 2026), $35 for the Early Bird (until 9 October 2026), and a higher fee for the Final Deadline (11 December 2026). Artists Network members receive discounted rates.\n\nApplications are submitted online via the Artists Network competition portal, where artists can upload images, provide details, and pay the entry fee. The competition is held annually, with the next edition scheduled for 2027, making this call a recurring event. The competition is conducted entirely online, with no travel or housing provisions required.
