SoMad NYC Bathroom Design Open Call

SoMad NYC is commissioning site‑specific installations for eight bathrooms in its new building slated to open in 2027. Artists, designers, architects, and interdisciplinary creatives are invited to propose concepts that re‑imagine bathroom spaces as immersive environments. Proposals may reinterpret walls, ceilings, lighting, mirrors, flooring, and sensory elements, while respecting fixed plumbing, ADA, and code requirements. Selected applicants will receive a project budget of $5,000–$25,000 (artist fee 30–40% of total, minimum $2,500), full access to floor plans, coordination with the architect and contractors, and installation support including labor and standard construction work. The open call launched on September 16, 2026 and submissions close on November 11, 2026 at 11:59 pm ET. Shortlisted finalists will be interviewed in late November–January 2027, with selections announced by January 22, 2027. The resulting installations will be installed during spring‑summer 2027 and remain as permanent site‑specific works. Applicants must be able to work on site in New York City; NYC‑based artists are preferred. The application consists of a 9‑section online form requiring a visual proposal PDF, budget outline, and a 300–500‑word concept statement.

Full access to floor plans and site documentation; coordination with architect and contractors; installation support (labor, tools, fabrication assistance); standard construction work (plumbing, waterproofing, electrical, lighting, flooring, drywall) covered by general contractors.

Open to artists, designers, architects, and interdisciplinary creatives; NYC‑based or able to be onsite for key project phases preferred.
