About This Opportunity

The Mondriaan Fund’s Residency grant is aimed at visual artists, curators and art observers who wish to deepen their professional practice through a work period in the Netherlands or an international residency recognised by the Fund. Applicants receive a variable grant that covers travel, accommodation and material costs, with the amount depending on the location and duration of the residency; Caribbean applicants may receive a higher amount to cover travel expenses. Residents are required to contribute at least 10 % of the total grant amount, which can be provided as personal investment, third‑party contributions, an interest‑free loan from Fonds Kwadraat, or crowdfunding. The call is open for two applications per round, each for a different residency, and a maximum of one grant may be awarded per applicant per calendar year. Eligibility criteria include at least one year of professional practice, no concurrent financial support from the Mondriaan Fund for the same costs, and exclusion of applicants currently enrolled in full‑time study programmes. The deadline for the 2027 work period is Thursday 27 August 2027 (16:00 CET / 10:00 Caribbean time). Applications are submitted via the Fund’s online portal, requiring a portfolio, CV, project plan, and supporting documentation. The grant does not provide a stipend beyond covering the specified costs, but it ensures that accommodation and travel expenses are paid directly to the chosen residency.
