About This Opportunity
Victoria University of Wellington (Te Herenga Waka) is recruiting a Composer‑in‑Residence to join its New Zealand School of Music (NZSM) for a 9‑month, fixed‑term contract. The role is jointly funded by Creative New Zealand, the Lilburn Residence Trust and the NZSM Composer‑in‑Residence Endowment Fund. Applicants must be established composers or sonic artists with a proven track record of substantial and sustained creative activity, and must not be enrolled as a university student or employed in a permanent or substantial fixed‑term role elsewhere. Candidates must be citizens or residents of New Zealand or Australia, or hold a current working visa. The successful resident will be housed at the historic Lilburn Residence in Thorndon, Wellington, with a small rental covering basic maintenance and utilities. The position offers a salary of $60,450, professional development, networking and collaboration opportunities with the academic community at NZSM, the Thorndon arts precinct and the wider Wellington arts community.
