About This Opportunity

The Sandy Spring Museum, located in Sandy Spring, Maryland, presents contemporary exhibitions in its three galleries – the Dr. Bird Room, the Exhibition Hall, and the Farquhar Gallery. Through this open call, the museum seeks artists whose practice explores cultural traditions, community narratives, and regional heritage. Proposals are reviewed individually, and the museum works with artists to strengthen submissions so they align with its mission of social equity and cultural heritage. Exhibitions are planned at least one year in advance, and artists are encouraged to submit early. Accepted proposals may feature 30–50 works, depending on size and medium, and can include two‑ and three‑dimensional pieces. The museum offers exhibition space across its three galleries, staff support for proposal development, and inclusion in its public programming. Applicants must not have presented a solo exhibition in any of the museum’s main galleries within the past seven years, and repeat exhibiting artists from the past seven years are not eligible. No application fee is required. For logistical planning, the museum provides gallery maps and hanging specifications PDFs. Inquiries can be directed to Exhibit & Program Coordinator Yu Jie via email.
