About This Opportunity

Greek Island Village Escape is an artist residency hosted by the Ano Asites Artist Residency in the quiet mountain village of Ano Asites on the island of Crete, Greece. The program offers a flexible stay of at least two weeks, with no upper limit, allowing artists to immerse themselves in a rural, contemplative environment. Accommodation is provided in either a newly renovated village apartment or a mountain hut, both available for €300 per week; an additional €50 per week is charged for partners or friends. Food is not included, and the residency does not offer free stays in exchange for work. Applicants are asked to email the residency coordinator with a brief statement of their project, a short biography, and links to a portfolio or website. The residency welcomes artists of all disciplines who are self‑sufficient, have a solid project to work on, and are comfortable with solitude. It is not intended as a tourist experience; visitors should be prepared for a more authentic Cretan lifestyle. The residency is run by an Australian artist who lives between the village and Heraklion city, and the program is part of the larger Lakkos Artists Residency network. The application process is open on a rolling basis, with no fixed deadline, and the residency is available year‑round.
