Luis Valtueña International Humanitarian Photography Award 2026
The 30th Luis Valtueña International Humanitarian Photography Award, organized by Médicos del Mundo Spain, seeks to recognize and disseminate the best images that singularly demonstrate social inequities, injustices, and/or human rights abuses, or the situations that either foster or fight them. The competition is open to amateur and professional photographers of any nationality, aged 18 or older. Entrants must submit a photographic series of 5 to 10 images that narrate a story related to one of the following topics: health, natural disasters, humanitarian action, international cooperation, social exclusion, violation of human rights, armed conflicts, vulnerable groups, refugee and/or migrant populations. At least 50 % of the images must have been taken between 2025 and 2026. Entries are submitted digitally via the Picter platform; registration is free. The competition launches on 30 July 2026 and closes on 11 October 2026 at 23:59 GMT+2. The jury, composed of leading photography professionals, a representative from humanitarian action, and a representative of Médicos del Mundo, will select the winning series and up to three finalists. The total prize fund is €12 000, distributed as €6 000 for the overall winner, €2 000 for second, third, and fourth prizes, and a €1 500 special prize awarded by the San Sebastián Human Rights Film Festival. Winners and finalists will have their work published in a catalog and displayed in a collective and itinerant exhibition. The organization will cover travel and lodging for two consecutive nights for the chosen entrants to attend the award ceremony and exhibition opening. The award and exhibition will be promoted for at least one year through press releases and media outreach.
