About This Opportunity

La Casa de Belmonte is a writer’s shelter and creative residency situated in a quiet village between Matarraña and Bajo Aragón in the province of Teruel, Spain. The program offers writers and other creative professionals a secluded environment surrounded by almond and olive trees, with a minimum stay of three days and typical durations of one to two weeks or longer. Applicants are invited to submit a project summary, a narrative sample, and contact details; a jury of literary professionals selects a small number of winners each year. Selected residents receive private accommodation with a desk and Wi‑Fi, access to a communal kitchen, a library of over 700 books, a living room, and a roof terrace overlooking the Mezquín river valley. The host covers cleaning service, the first day’s lunch, and pick‑up from Alcañiz station, while the artist pays a weekly fee of €330. In addition to the paid residency, La Casa de Belmonte offers an annual grant program that selects up to three writers for complimentary accommodation to develop their projects. The residency encourages interaction among residents and with the local community, providing opportunities for walks, visits to natural pools, and cultural exchange. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, with no fixed deadline, and the program is open to writers of all nationalities and career stages.
