About This Opportunity

Instituto Sacatar is calling for applications from artists currently residing in Africa, for residency sessions at Sacatar (Bahia, Brazil) in 2026. The open call is part of the project ‘Bahia Mundo: Artists from Bahia in Residence at Sacatar’, supported by the Secretary of Culture of the State of Bahia (SECULT), through the Apoio a Ações Continuadas do Fundo de Cultura da Secretaria de Cultura do Estado da Bahia. Aiming to foster greater cultural exchange between artists, researchers, and cultural and community agents from the state of Bahia and artists from the African continent, this open call will select two artists residing in Africa to participate in artist residencies at Instituto Sacatar, in Itaparica, Bahia, Brazil. The session will take place in the following periods (exact dates TBC): * 11 May to 29 June 2026 (7 weeks) * 16 November 2026 to 18 January 2027 (9 weeks) Instituto Sacatar will provide each selected artist with a private suite (bedroom and bathroom) and an individual studio. All meals prepared on-site are included for the duration of the residency (except Saturday nights, Sundays, and public holidays). Instituto Sacatar will also cover the cost of a round-trip economy class airfare from the artist’s country of residence to Bahia and will provide a stipend of 3,000 BRL to support technical, artistic, and research development.
