About This Opportunity

The Exhibitions Abroad Support Program is a grant initiative by the Japan Foundation aimed at overseas museums and art institutions that organize exhibitions showcasing Japanese art and culture. The program covers expenses incurred between April 1 2027 and March 31 2028, including packing and shipping of artworks (excluding insurance), catalogue production costs (with partial support for international exhibitions), and traveling costs for dispatched or invited artists, curators, and specialists (airfare, train fare, and accommodation, excluding preliminary research expenses). The grant does not cover production costs of artworks, installation costs, or artists’ fees. Eligible projects must be scheduled to open between April 1 2027 and March 31 2028 and should introduce Japanese artists and works within international exhibitions such as biennials or triennials, or be created through artist‑in‑residence programs abroad. Applications are accepted through the Japan Foundation’s Online Application Portal by 1 p.m. on December 1 2026 (Japan Standard Time). The program is recurring, with a new fiscal year edition each year. The Japan Foundation encourages applications from overseas institutions that have not previously received support for similar projects.
