Creative Crosswalks – Request for Proposals
City of Glendale Library, Arts & Culture Department
About This Opportunity
The Library, Arts & Culture Department of the City of Glendale, on behalf of the Arts & Culture Commission, is accepting proposals for the Creative Crosswalk Murals program. Artists and artist teams are asked to develop design concepts that celebrate Glendale’s sister cities, incorporating cultural, landscape, and culinary elements of each partner city. The program covers three project groups with budgets ranging from $1,000 to $20,000 per crosswalk leg design, intended for design concept renderings only; construction and installation costs are covered by the city’s general contractor. Eligibility is open to local and international artists and artist teams of any discipline, with no further restrictions. Applications are submitted online via the city’s Arts & Culture Commission website, with a deadline of September 18, 2026 at 5:00 PM PST. No application fee is required. Selected artists will receive a monetary award for their design concept, public exposure through city channels, and the opportunity to see their artwork installed on city crosswalks. The selection process involves a three‑step review by city staff and the Arts & Culture Commission, with notifications expected in mid‑October 2026. The project aims to enhance traffic safety and community identity through creative public art.
