About This Opportunity

Bernheim Forest and Arboretum’s 2027 Artist in Residence program seeks regional, national, and international visual and mixed‑media artists—including sound and performance—to create site‑specific ecological artwork. Four residency slots are awarded annually, each providing a $2,500 stipend, comfortable rustic housing, studio space, financial and staff support, and the opportunity to engage the public through workshops, lectures, or demonstrations. One slot is reserved for a regional artist residing in Kentucky or Clark/Floyd counties in southern Indiana, while another is dedicated to an artist whose work addresses environmental issues and climate change. Residents will live on the Bernheim campus for six to eight weeks in 2027, developing a temporary installation or project that will be donated to the Bernheim Foundation. Applications are accepted until midnight EST on 30 November 2026. An informational webinar is scheduled for 15 October 2026. The request for proposals can be downloaded from the link provided.
