About This Opportunity

White Buffalo Land Trust invites artists to apply for its 2027 Artist‑in‑Residence program at the 1,000‑acre Jalama Canyon Ranch on California’s Central Coast. The residency runs from March to November 2027, with each artist staying on‑site for a flexible period of six weeks to three months. Residents live in on‑site accommodations and receive a living stipend, travel reimbursement, and a materials stipend to support the creation of place‑based work that explores the intersection of art, ecology, and regenerative agriculture. Participants will engage directly with land stewards, contribute to a public community‑facing experience, and lead an educational workshop for local high‑school students. The program welcomes artists of any medium—including visual arts, sculpture, photography, music, dance, writing, and architecture—provided they are residents of the United States. No prior experience is required, but applicants must be prepared for rustic conditions, unpaved roads, and an active agricultural environment. The application deadline is August 30, 2026, with final decisions announced in September 2026. Selected artists will be notified by early September. The call is open annually, making it a recurring opportunity.
