About This Opportunity

The Mondriaan Fund, one of the six national cultural funds in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, offers the Artist Basic grant to visual artists who have been professionally active for at least four years. The grant aims to stimulate the development of the artist’s oeuvre, cultural entrepreneurship and visibility, and can be used for research, experimentation, the purchase of materials or equipment, commissions, and participation in exhibitions or events in the Netherlands or abroad. Up to €50,000 is awarded in installments over a period of two to four years. Applicants must be based in the Netherlands or the Caribbean part of the Kingdom (Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, Sint‑Eustatius, Sint‑Maarten) and meet an income ceiling of €55,000 per year (taxable income over the previous two years). The grant can be received only once every four years, and previous recipients are ineligible for a new application within 12 months of a rejected submission. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis through the Fund’s online portal, with a processing period of three months. The fund also offers an interest‑free loan for previous grant recipients via Fonds Kwadraat.
