About This Opportunity

AiR Boston is the City of Boston’s Artist-in-Residence program, managed by the Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture (MOAC). The 2027 pilot year will embed three professional artists within city departments and community‑based organizations for a twelve‑month residency (January – December 2027). Residents will work 15‑20 hours per week on socially‑engaged projects that address civic challenges, develop prototypes, and produce public presentations, exhibitions, or tools. The program provides a shared studio space, a materials and community‑engagement budget of up to $30,000, professional development workshops, mentorship from a program manager and facilitator, access to city staff and data, and insurance coverage. Selected artists receive a contract with an estimated annual budget of $52,000, paid in phased milestones. Applications are accepted from qualified working artists who have at least five years of professional experience, can commute to Boston daily, are eligible to work in the United States, and are 18 years or older. Proposals must be submitted electronically via the City’s Supplier Portal (or by mail) by 2 p.m. on January 4 2027.
