About This Opportunity

The Rencontres d’Arles curatorial research grant (also called the 2027 Curatorial Research Fellowship) offers a maximum of €20,000 to exhibition curators (individuals or collectives) to develop original projects relating to image or photography. The award is split into two phases: a six‑month research phase funded with €5,000 (royalties and expenses) and, subject to approval, a production phase funded with up to €15,000 for exhibition costs, artwork loans, transport, printing, framing, video production, exhibition design, communication, installation, dismantling, security, and accommodation for invited artists. Applications open on 16 September 2026 and close on 30 November 2026. Selected curators must submit a project description (max 5,000 characters), a list of works and artists, provisional research and production budgets, a research timetable, and a detailed biography. The application is submitted online via a Typeform link. Results are announced at the end of February 2027. The research phase runs until summer 2027, with a presentation and possible approval for the production phase scheduled for September to mid‑October 2027. The grant is open to all exhibition curators worldwide, with no nationality restriction. The program is administered by Les Rencontres d’Arles, the leading international photography festival based in Arles, France.
