About This Opportunity

Resynthesising the Traditional 2027 is an artistic research lab co‑curated by Stas Shärifulla and CTM Festival that invites artists and practice‑based researchers to critically examine the intersections between tradition and the extreme. The lab runs for seven days from 24 January to 1 February 2027 in Bali and Majalengka, West Java, Indonesia, and offers a week‑long residency with travel, accommodation, catering, and a travel budget of up to €300 per participant. Participants will engage in theory and practice workshops, oral presentations, solo public performances, field trips, and feedback sessions with the co‑hosts and curators. The lab is open to artists worldwide who already have a practice that connects traditional sonic ideas with contemporary forms, and who can articulate clear research questions or project ideas. English proficiency is recommended. Selected fellows will be invited to propose new works for commission and presentation at CTM Festival in Berlin, with the possibility of a second commission in 2028. Applications are accepted online via the embedded form on the CTM Festival website, and the deadline is 28 September 2026.
