The Institut français and the Cité internationale des arts (CIAP) have launched a joint residency program open to artists and cultural professionals who have been residing outside France for at least five years. The program offers 3‑, 6‑ or 9‑month residencies in Paris, scheduled in consecutive quarters from April 2027 to April 2028. Applicants must be nominated by one or more cultural partners (French cultural network abroad, French or foreign cultural organisations) and must be free from professional obligations during the residency. They must also demonstrate a professional‑level command of French and/or English.

Disciplines covered include architecture, landscape and urban planning; street art, circus and puppetry; plastic art; cinema (animation, fiction, creative documentary, video art); digital creation (digital art, video games, VR); art criticism and curating; dance and performance; design and graphic design; literature (fiction, essays, children’s literature, comics); and music (classical, contemporary, jazz).

The residency provides a monthly stipend of at least €1,100, covers international travel, health/repairs insurance, visa fees, and provides a furnished studio apartment in the Marais district (18 rue de l’Hôtel de Ville, 4th arrondissement). The apartment includes a workspace, Wi‑Fi, kitchenette, bathroom and sleeping area. Additional services such as accompanying persons, rehearsal studios, group workshops and French language classes are the responsibility of the artist.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until the deadline of 8 October 2026. The selection committee is chaired by the deputy director of the Institut français’s Department of International Mobility and Events and includes sector experts from the Institut français, CIAP, the French cultural network abroad, the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Culture and external figures. The evaluation criteria focus on the applicant’s professional background, the artistic and intellectual quality of the project, the proposed work plan, and the connection to the French and Île‑de‑France art scenes.

Artists and cultural professionals of all nationalities who have resided outside France for at least five years, demonstrate professional artistic practice, have professional proficiency in French or English, and apply through a partner organization.
