Canada Council for the Arts’ International Residencies program, part of the Arts Across Canada and Abroad initiative, offers Canadian artists, arts workers, groups, and organizations up to $20,000 per application to support creative research and production during an international residency of at least five consecutive days. Eligible applicants include individual artists, arts workers, artistic groups, artistic organizations, and First Nations, Inuit, or Métis artists or workers, cultural carriers, groups, collectives, and not‑for‑profit organizations. Applicants must be invited or selected by a host organization abroad and cannot host a residency or conduct activities within Canada. The grant covers a wide range of expenses, including travel, accommodation, professional fees, safety and insurance, child or dependent care, and accessibility provisions. Applications are assessed by a peer assessment committee on artistic quality, project rationale, suitability, and potential for international engagement, with a minimum score requirement. The program has multiple annual deadlines—January 28, June 17, and October 21, 2026—making it a recurring call. The Canada Council for the Arts provides the funding, and the application portal is accessed through the Canada Council’s online portal.
