The Voucher Artisan is a grant offered by the Mondriaan Fund for visual artists based in the Netherlands or the Caribbean part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It enables artists to hire a professional artisan – a craftsman who works on the production, transformation, repair or restoration of objects – to support research or the creation of a work. The grant covers the payment of the artisan, up to a maximum of €8,000 (excluding VAT). Applications can be submitted at any time of the year, provided sufficient budget remains, and must be filed at least five weeks and no more than four months before the planned start date of the project. The fund processes applications within five weeks, though this may vary. Eligibility requires the applicant to be a professional visual artist for at least one year, not currently enrolled in a full‑time study programme, and to be active in the Dutch or Caribbean visual arts field. The artisan must also be based in the same regions and have at least one year of professional experience. The application includes a project plan, quotation from the artisan, CVs of both artist and artisan, and supporting documents such as bank details and, if applicable, proof of registration. No application fee is required. The grant does not cover regular production expenses such as framing, web design, or sound effects, and cannot be combined with other Mondriaan Fund contributions covering the same costs.
