Lighthouse Arts, an initiative of the Hunter Writers' Centre, provides day‑time residencies for writers, visual artists and musicians in heritage‑listed lighthouse cottages overlooking the ocean and city of Newcastle, NSW, Australia. Residents receive a private studio or music room equipped with desk, chair, internet, power and views, as well as access to a communal kitchen, outdoor spaces and networking opportunities. Residencies are offered in several formats – a one‑week (5‑day) intensive, a four‑week programme (one day per week), a one‑day drop‑in, or a five‑day non‑consecutive package for existing Lighthouse Keepers. Fees vary for members and non‑members; there is no separate application fee. Accommodation is not provided and transport is currently unavailable. Applicants must propose a desk‑based project (oil paints prohibited) and adhere to heritage‑site guidelines. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis via an online form, with dates displayed on a downloadable 2026 residency calendar.
