Light Up The North (LUTN) is launching ILLUMINE 2 – an ambitious commissioning opportunity for Black and People of Colour (POC) artists to create a bold new light artwork that will tour to festivals across the North of England. The programme will commission one artist or collective to develop a mid‑ to large‑scale light installation for the 2027–28 festival season, with the finished work touring multiple LUTN member festivals between October 2027 and February 2028, reaching hundreds of thousands of audiences. Applicants must be Black or POC artists (or collectives) with an established professional practice and a strong portfolio. No prior experience in light art is required; the programme will provide technical expertise, creative production support and specialist guidance to help realise the project. The commission represents an investment in diverse artistic voices, offering production support, mentorship and extensive exposure across the North of England’s festival network. Applications close on 11 September 2026 at 5 pm.
