Creative Australia’s First Nations Arts and Culture Awards celebrate excellence, leadership and innovation within the First Nations arts and culture sector. The 2027 awards, to be presented on 27 May 2027, comprise several categories:
• Red Ochre Award – Lifetime Achievement in Artistic Excellence (2 awards, $80,000 each)
• Red Ochre Award – Lifetime Achievement in Cultural Advocacy and Leadership (2 awards, $80,000 each)
• Established Artist of the Year Award (1 award, $25,000)
• Youth Award for Achievement in the Arts (1 award, $25,000)
• First Nations Arts and Culture Business Innovation Award (1 award, $25,000)
Nominations are open to senior First Nations artists and cultural workers with at least 30 years of practice, as well as to arts organisations and community groups. Nominators must be over 18 years old and reside in Australia; nominees must be living Australian First Nations artists or arts workers. Self‑nominations are not accepted for the Red Ochre categories.
Applicants submit nominations through Creative Australia’s online Application Management System, providing a nominee CV, work samples, and up to four letters of support. The nomination deadline is 15 September 2026, 3 pm AEST. The awards are judged by an independent panel of First Nations industry advisors.
The ceremony will take place at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney. No travel or housing support is provided for nominees; the awards are presented in person.
