x̱aw̓s shew̓áy̓ 先住民の若者向けアート公募

The x̱aw̓s shew̓áy̓ art call invites Indigenous children and youth (up to 15yrs old) from across Vancouver and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) territories to submit artwork of their favourite plant!

All submitted artwork will be displayed at an exhibition event, held on Saturday, August 29 at x̱aw̓s shew̓áy̓ New Growth 新生林: a communal Indigenous plant garden that was rewilded by artist and ethnobotanist Tʼuyʼtʼtanat-Cease Wyss and is operated by 221A. The garden is located at 271 Union Street, in the heart of Chinatown and adjacent to historic Hogan’s Alley. Food and activities will be provided!

Submit your work below by Sunday, August 16. The first 100 artists to submit their artwork will receive a $20 Dairy Queen gift card!

Guidelines for Submission:

• Draw a plant using any art medium of your choice and sign it with your first-name in the corner! Examples of plants found in x̱aw̓s shew̓áy̓ are listed below.
• Take a picture of your artwork in a well-lit space, ensuring that the entire image is visible.

x̱aw̓s shew̓áy̓ is home to plants that are indigenous to the bioregion of the Pacific Northwest Coast. For inspiration, here is a list of plants you can find seasonally in the garden:
