Write Over Here: Indigenous Futurism Residency 2027 is a screenwriting residency for Indigenous artists hosted by the Banff Centre in Calgary, Canada. The hybrid program runs from February 1 to February 26, 2027, combining an online preparatory week (February 1‑5) with on‑campus workshops, one‑on‑one consultations, studio time, and community‑engagement events. Participants work individually or with a collaborator (novelist, short‑story writer or playwright) to adapt a work for film or television, exploring themes of futurism. The residency offers faculty‑led workshops, mentorship from Indigenous media artist Roxann Whitebean and other guest artists, 24/7 studio access, a single‑occupancy bedroom, meal plan credit, and opportunities to showcase work at an open‑house on February 24. All Indigenous participants receive a Banff Centre Arts Scholarship that covers 100 % of the total program fee (CAD 6,153), including tuition, accommodation and meals. The program is open to Indigenous screenwriters of any career stage who are 18 + at the start date, have at least one script or relevant film‑screenwriting education, and have a current work‑in‑progress to develop. Applicants must be able to attend the full residency period and, if non‑Canadian, obtain a visitor visa for Canada.
