The Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study (STIAS) invites accomplished artists from around the world to apply for its Artist‑in‑Residence Fellowship. The program is an international residency that provides a fully funded stay in Stellenbosch, South Africa, including economy‑class return airfare to and from Cape Town, airport transfers, accommodation (and for an accompanying partner where applicable), a pro‑rated monthly living stipend, office facilities at the STIAS Wallenberg Research Centre, daily weekday lunches, and access to Stellenbosch University library services and other academic resources. The fellowship is designed for established artists with a strong record of creative achievement across a wide range of disciplines, including visual arts, music, film, literature, theatre, dance, design, and other recognised creative fields. Projects should be clearly defined, feasible within the residency period, and ideally engage with South Africa or the African continent, though this is not mandatory. Applicants must submit a professional portfolio, a project proposal, and evidence of artistic recognition. The residency runs for five months each semester (mid‑January to mid‑June for the first semester, mid‑July to mid‑December for the second semester). The program is open annually and the application deadline for the 2028 1st Semester is 31 October 2026.
