Radical Sabbatical is a collaborative six‑month residency programme between Eastside Projects and University Collections, University of Birmingham. Two UK‑based artists are invited to develop research‑driven practice alongside academics from a range of disciplines, receiving a £3,500 artist fee and a £500 production budget. The residency begins in January 2027 and culminates in a public sharing event in June/July 2027. Applicants must submit a proposal that engages with the theme of touch – exploring haptic, sensory, digital, material, and embodied dimensions – and indicate which listed academics they wish to work with. A pre‑application workshop is held on 29 September, and shortlisted artists are interviewed on 10 December. The call is open to individual artists residing in the United Kingdom.
