The Muckenthaler Cultural Center is seeking a Ceramic Studio Technician on an independent‑contract basis. The technician will support daily operations of the ceramics studio, including preparing and recycling clay and glaze materials, loading and unloading kilns, monitoring firing schedules, maintaining and troubleshooting equipment (kilns, wheels, slab rollers, extruders, ventilation), managing inventory of supplies, and ensuring a clean, safe workspace. Additional duties involve assisting instructors, students, and artists with technical questions, maintaining firing logs, enforcing safety policies, and providing support for workshops, classes, exhibitions, and special events. Candidates should have experience working in a ceramics studio, knowledge of ceramic materials and kiln operation, strong organizational and communication skills, and the ability to work independently. Preferred qualifications include an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in ceramics or a related field, experience with electric, gas, or wood‑fired kilns, and familiarity with OSHA standards. The position offers a stipend of $25‑$50 per hour, depending on experience, and flexible hours.
