CONTEMPORARY ART AND LAND ART

Contemporary art is the art of our time. It is characterized by the absence of a single style, the use of innovative techniques, and a wide range of themes related to today’s society, such as post-colonialism and the environment. Unlike modern art, it is no longer limited to the creation of objects, but embraces concepts, performances, installations, and the use of technologies such as video art and digital art. Artists create their works with materials provided by Primo Piano based on the project in progress.

Land Art is a form of contemporary art that involves intervening directly on the natural landscape, using local materials such as earth, rock, wood, and water. It originated in the United States between 1967 and 1968 and is a response to institutional culture, using nature as a canvas and sculptor, often with ephemeral works that emphasize the artistic experience and the relationship between humans and the environment.

During their residency, artists work directly in the field, especially in natural and unspoiled settings such as forests or beaches. The works created are temporary and destined to change and/or disappear over time due to weather conditions, emphasizing the creative process rather than the result. Nature is not just a backdrop, but an active participant in the work. The artist does not add foreign elements but shapes the landscape. Land Art often conveys messages related to environmental protection and a new harmonious relationship between humans and nature.
