20 Stories High, a leading young‑people theatre company based in Liverpool, is recruiting an Artistic Director to shape its artistic future. The role involves collaborating with the Executive Director, Associate Director and the wider team to champion new voices, develop the next generation of artists and ensure the company’s work continues to challenge, celebrate and reflect the communities it serves. The Artistic Director will lead the creation of bold, ambitious theatre and artistic experiences for young people aged 13‑30 and for excluded community groups of any age, while championing culturally diverse, working‑class, disabled, neurodivergent, LGBTQ+ artists. The successful candidate will live in or within easy daily reach of the Liverpool City Region, immerse themselves in the city’s creative life, build connections, discover artists and help shape Liverpool’s cultural future. Responsibilities include developing a distinctive artistic vision, leading the organisation, creating professional theatre and creative experiences across a variety of spaces, building pathways for emerging artists, and growing partnerships with educational institutions, commercial companies and arts organisations. The position offers a full‑time salary of £40,000–£45,000 per year, plus training, coaching and mentoring support. Applications are due by 5 October 2026 and should include a CV, background information form and a cover letter (max 2 pages) addressed to Catrina Hewitson, Chair of the 20 Stories High board.
