Beginning March 9 2026, the International Documentary Association (IDA) pilots an Emergency Assistance program for documentary filmmakers whose work places them in immediate and extreme physical danger. Eligible applicants must demonstrate a concrete safety plan, risk assessment, necessary travel documents, and provide two references, as well as a secure method to receive funds. Grants range from $500 to $5,000 USD and are transferred via wire or PayPal, with IDA responding within 24 hours. The six‑month pilot runs through September 2026 and will continue on a rolling basis as needs arise. Applications are submitted through an online intake form or via email, and IDA handles all requests confidentially.

Restrizioni

Applicants must be documentary filmmakers in imminent and extreme physical danger related to their project, have a concrete plan for fund use, have a risk assessment plan, have necessary visas if traveling, provide at least two references, and have a safe way to receive funds. Exclusions: non-physical danger, ongoing crises without immediate threat, censorship, etc.
