The Development Fund for Artists and Practitioners is a Creative New Zealand funding programme that offers up to NZD 5,000 to individual artists, permanent‑resident artists, or groups of collaborating artists to undertake professional development activities such as research, training, coaching, mentoring, workshops, conferences, wānanga or talanoa – either in New Zealand or internationally. The 2026 round is open from 27 July 2026 and closes on 27 August 2026 (1 PM NZST). Applications are submitted via the Creative New Zealand portal, with one submission allowed per funding round. Eligible applicants must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents; arts organisations and groups are excluded. The grant may cover activity fees, travel, capital items needed for the development activity, and an additional accessibility payment for eligible Deaf or disabled applicants. No application fee is required. Results are announced on 28 October 2026 and funded activities may run between 28 Oct 2026 and 31 Dec 2027.

Artists and practitioners who are New Zealand citizens or Permanent Residents. You can apply as: an individual, or a group of collaborators. If you received a Development Fund for Artists and Practitioners grant in 2024, you need to complete your funded activities and submit your project completion report before you can apply again.
