Bando UmbigoLAB: Residenza artistica UmbigoLAB presso la Fondazione Casa de Mateus 2026

UmbigoLAB, in co‑creation with the Casa de Mateus Foundation, announces its 2026 residency focused on the theme of Ecology. The call is open from 22 June to 31 August 2026. Selected artists will work on site at the Casa de Mateus facilities between 21 September and 2 October, with a second phase from 12 to 18 October. The residency is part of the School of Transitions project and the Art in the Landscape programme, aiming to generate artistic research that interprets cultural heritage and the natural environment. It targets visual artists (or duos) whose practice engages environmental issues. Applications are open to all artists regardless of age, gender, nationality or residence, provided they have not previously participated in an UmbigoLAB residency. The project proposal must engage with the specific context of the Casa de Mateus estate and explore ecological themes related to the territory of Mateus and Vila Real. Selections will be made by a jury comprising Liliana Coutinho, Matilde Seabra and representatives of Umbigo Edições/Fundação Millennium bcp and the Casa de Mateus Foundation. No application fee is required.

Open to all visual artists or artist duos listed on the UmbigoLAB platform; previous UmbigoLAB residents are ineligible.
