Located in the picturesque troglodyte village of Trôo in the Loire Valley, the Cave Yuccas Artist Retreat invites visual artists, poets, and writers from around the world to immerse themselves in a unique, secluded environment. The retreat offers a two- or four-week stay in a comfortable cottage that includes a private bedroom, bathroom, and sofa bed for a second person. A dedicated studio space below the cottage provides 24/7 access, equipped with French box easels, natural light, and basic supplies such as paint scrapers, rags, and a work table. All utilities, electric heating, and Wi‑Fi are included, and a post‑stay cleaning fee covers maintenance. Applicants pay a €45 application fee, which is deducted from the total cost if accepted; a partial refund is offered if the application is rejected. The retreat is not recommended for individuals with mobility issues due to steep footpaths and staircases. At the end of the stay, each artist is asked to contribute one piece of visual or literary work inspired by Trôo to the Cave Yuccas Museum’s permanent collection. The program is open to all artists regardless of discipline or nationality, with no age or residency restrictions. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, and the next edition is scheduled for 2026. The retreat provides a supportive environment for creative exploration, cultural exchange, and community engagement with local residents and museum visitors.
