The Governor General’s Awards in Visual and Media Arts (GGArts) are an annual Canadian award program established in 1999 by the Canada Council for the Arts and the Governor General of Canada. Each year, up to eight artists are honored for their remarkable careers in visual arts, media arts, or fine craft. The awards comprise six prizes for artistic achievement, one Saidye Bronfman Award for an exceptional fine craft artist, and one award for an outstanding contribution to contemporary visual arts, media arts or fine craft. Winners receive a medallion and a cash prize of $25,000. The nomination process is open to specialists in visual arts, media arts or fine craft from Canada, who may nominate individual artists, groups of co‑nominators, or representatives of organizations. Nominations are submitted through an online portal, with separate links for Artistic Achievement, Saidye Bronfman Award, and Outstanding Contribution categories. The deadline for nominations is October 7, 2026. The program is a recurring annual competition with no application fee.
